Samsung announces Exynos 5100 modem, world’s first 5G modem
Samsung first showcased its first 5G modem in CES 2018. The company was working on it for some time and today, Samsung announced the world’s first 5G modem called Exynos 5100. This model also complies with the 3GPP standards.

The new Exynos 5100 modem is built using the 10nm manufacturing process like the Exynos 9810 chipset. This new 5G modem from Samsung will also support the older generation networks like 2G GSM/CDMA, 3G WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, HSPA, and 4G LTE.
Exynos 5100 supports 3GPP defined mmWave and sub-6GHz spectrum. This 6G modem from Samsung can reach upto 2Gbps speed using sub-6GHz and 6Gbps on mmWave. These speeds are 1.7 and 5 times higher than the current hardware can achieve.
Samsung promised that it will bring these 5G modems to the consumer by the end of 2018.
